The Long-Awaited Game: Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced on October 19, 2012, with an 18-second video. Later, on January 10, 2013, a new video was released along with a teaser trailer. However, it was still unclear what kind of game we would be getting. On June 11, 2018, the first official trailer for the game was released. The game takes place in the year 2077. With great advances in technology, the human body has become semi-robotic. Although the outer appearance might not seem robotic, humans have features like fire-resistant skin, enhanced bone systems, and various cyber implants.

The Long-Awaited Game - Cyberpunk 2077

On August 27, 2018, a 48-minute gameplay video was released, and the graphics quality looked amazing according to the video we watched. We were eagerly waiting for the game. The release date kept getting postponed, and finally, it was released on December 10, 2020. Upon its release, Cyberpunk 2077 received a lot of negative feedback from many players. There were significant FPS (Frames Per Second) drops in the game. Particularly, PlayStation users couldn't play the game, and it was removed from the PlayStation store.

Besides stability issues, the game's artificial intelligence was also problematic. For example, when you stopped on the side of the road, other cars would wait for you to move instead of passing by. This was later fixed in an update. Moreover, there were countless logical errors in the game, but if we analyze it from a storyline perspective, I can say it has a good plot.

The game takes place in the fictional city of Night City in the year 2077. The main character's name is "V". At the beginning of the game, we are given options to choose one of three life paths: Nomad, Street Kid, or Corporate. V, as a Nomad, leaves their clan outside the city and moves to a big city for the first time; as a Street Kid, V ends up in Night City after stealing a car and living their life on the street; and as a Corporate, V gets fired from Arasaka Corporation due to their supervisor's incompetent power plays. In the first two life paths, V becomes a new friend to Jackie Welles, while in the Corporate life path, Welles is already an old friend. The game has three different starting points, but it does not affect the flow of the main story. You simply start from a different point and continue playing.

Besides the main missions, the game has many side quests. Although side quests don't significantly affect the main storyline, they each have their own story, which enhances the game's narrative to some extent. It is possible to complete the game without doing side quests, of course, but in my opinion, something would be missing.

Johnny Silverhand

The character Johnny Silverhand, who appears in the game trailers, is portrayed by Keanu Reeves, whom we know from The Matrix and John Wick movies. In the game, this character died in 2023, but his consciousness was preserved digitally. This digital persona later merges with the brain of the character we play after completing one of the initial missions, and we continue the game trying to get rid of it. The game has several different endings. Either this digital persona will completely take over our character's body, or we will completely erase it to finish the game. It all depends on the player's choice.

Two different personas in the same body: Johnny Silverhand and V. At first, these two characters are like enemies—which is natural, as having someone take over your body is not something easy to accept—but as the game progresses, they begin to act like good friends. There is also a section in the game where we control the character Johnny Silverhand in 2023. Here, we play as the Keanu Reeves character, and the gun control and use are very reminiscent of John Wick. I recommend watching the John Wick movie as well.

Additionally, Cyberpunk 2077 was released with Turkish subtitle support. The translation was done by a Turkish company named 23 Studios. Despite some foreign words not having an exact Turkish equivalent, they managed to place words with similar meanings, and I think they did an excellent job with the translation.

I tried to explain the game without giving too much detail about the story. If you get the chance, I recommend playing it to experience the story for yourself.
